7 Must-Have Kitchen Appliances
After having a long day at work, a kitchen is one of the best places to wind up your day. As much as you may love cooking, sometimes it feels like a chore you don’t like, especially when you consider how much time you’ll take to prepare and cook the food. To make it more fun, you need to get kitchen appliances that are easy to use and make you comfortable even when you’re tired.
If you’re a stay at home mum, the better. Having a wide range of kitchen appliances help you enjoy preparing food all day and still get a chance to learn new skills. Below are some of the appliances that your kitchen must-have;
- Dishwasher
I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like scrubbing dishes. I might sound lazy or ignorant, but I know that deep down, if you had a choice not to hand-wash dishes, you would go for it. This choice is available in the form of a dishwasher, a machine that is designed to wash dishes, rinse them, and dry them. All you have to do is load the dishes, add the detergent, and let it do its thing. You know how annoying spots caused by hard water are.
Dishwashers are equipped with mechanical and chemical capabilities to remove all forms of dirt from your dishes and leave them sparkling clean.
All good things come at a cost. When using a dishwasher, you need to use specific dishwasher detergent. These detergents may cause a haze effect on your glassware. Also, you need to get the temperatures right, failure to which, you’ll destroy your nonstick pans, and discolor some items. The ideal temperature should be from 65 – 710 C.
Despite some of the side effects, having a dishwasher in your kitchen and knowing how to use it is the best thing that could happen in your life.
- Refrigerator
This is one of the most important kitchen appliances. It’s also one of the most notable inventions of the 20th century. Also known as a Fridge in some areas, it mainly helps us store perishable foods and keep these foods cold. The temperatures in the fridge are usually below water’s freezing point to render bacteria inactive. The bacteria that cause food to go bad rely on heat. Refrigerators help us go shopping a few times a month, saving up on gas and the time spent when you have to shop for foodstuff every now and then. Also, if you have medication that needs to be kept at a cool temperature, a refrigerator is the best place to store them. They come in all sizes, based on the size of your family, or, based on your needs. A good kitchen makes a home. And, without a refrigerator, your kitchen can’t be complete.
- Microwave Oven
Often linked with some diseases like cancer, a microwave is still a kitchen appliance that you can rely on. You may need it for quick meals such as eggs, potatoes, or even pasta; meals that you don’t have to use the usual fire from the gas cooker. A microwave should be there when you’re in a hurry, and most importantly, when you have a baby.
- Gas Stove
This one is another must-have kitchen appliance. Well, you can’t make all your meals on the microwave; neither can use charcoal or firewood, at least not all the time. If you have all the time, you can opt for firewood; some people say food cooked with firewood tastes better. Gas stove food tastes good too. Since we are talking about making the kitchen more comfortable, a gas stove is the best cooking appliance you can have. Make sure that observe the precaution necessary when handling it. Ensure that you have a fire extinguisher around and always check for gas leaks. Also, make sure that you purchase your gas cooker from an authorized dealer. There are cases of illegal gas vendors whose appliances pose a danger to the users and the environment.
- Blender
We all love homemade juices and smoothies. Thanks to blenders, we have to waste a lot of time smashing with pestle and mortar. Blenders make it easier since you can control to what extent you’re items should be blended. In the era of technology, blenders have become more helpful. They can help track how many calories you’re taking to ensure that you maintain a healthy weight. Nowadays, we even have blenders that you can set the ingredients and the time. You can have it prepare a smoothie with your preloaded settings just in time for your breakfast. How fascinating is that? If you have a baby, a blender can help smoothen up the food to make it consumable by the toddler. You’ll have a lot of time to spend on other activities when you have such appliances in your kitchen.
- Pressure Cooker
If you love making soup from tough foods like the cow legs, this one’s for you. You could boil cow legs in a pot for hours and still not soften up. When you do, you’ll have wasted a lot of time. A pressure cooker brings a unique way of cooking such types of food. This is by cooking with less water and concealing the pressure within the “pot” of the cooker. Air is expelled, and the temperature rises as pressure rises. This greatly reduces the cooking time, and it’s more efficient compared to normal conventional cooking.
To effectively use this type of cooker, you need to understand how to release the pressure in a controlled manner. The amount of pressure and vapor in this pot could harm you greatly if you mishandled the pressure cooker.
- Toaster
This kitchen appliance is great for people who love making waffles, sandwiches, crunchy bread, and fried eggs. If you’re not a fan of any of these (which I really doubt), don’t archive your toaster just yet. This is because you can use it for other applications. Did you know that you can make cookies, pizza, cook chicken, steak, or fish? That’s right, toasters aren’t just for browning bread anymore, making them a must-have kitchen appliance. The reason you can use a toaster in place for a microwave oven is that they are portable and small. It’s perfect as a countertop kitchen appliance. Toasters are also very energy efficient compared to other ovens. They also handle a wide variety of dishes and are easy to clean. If you don’t have one of these, I don’t see why you shouldn’t get one. After all, who wouldn’t want a comfortable kitchen that’s affordable too?
*Other Kitchen appliances you can consider adding to your kitchen include;
- Cooker hood
- Electric Grill
- Electric Kettle
- Mixer
- Salad spinner
- Food processor
- Juicer
